Before Hollywood’s A-listers grab their seats and have their fingers crossed to see if they would be the lucky ones who will take home the much-coveted award, they will first have to walk down the red carpet, all dressed to the nines and dazzle everyone with their charm and glamour.
As we all await the 88th Academy awards tomorrow, let’s take a lookback at the best looks that had graced the Oscars red carpet.
1. Nicole Kidman in Dior Haute Couture (1997)
This look cemented Nicole Kidman’s status as one of Hollywood’s fashion icon. The actress looked like a goddess towering over her then-husband Tom Cruise: breathtaking, elegant, and glamorous.
2. Julia Roberts in Valentino (2001)
If we were to pick what would be Julia’s most iconic look, this would be it. Her look was simply timeless. From her hair to her makeup, it was perfect.
3. Halle Berry in Elie Saab Haute Couture (2002)
Correct me if I am wrong but I think Halle was the very first actress who dared to wear a sheer gown on the red carpet, and at Oscars at that! We love how this Elie Saab Haute Couture carmine gown flaunted her sexy body with those leaves and floral embroidery strategically covering her best assets.
4. Kate Hudson in Versace (2003)
Ethereal. That best describes Kate’s look at the 2003 Academy Awards as she sashayed down the red carpet wearing this exquisite Versace gown made with 14 carat gold. The lace embroidery was hand-sewn onto the gown by Donatella Versace herself .
5. Cate Blanchett in Valentino (2005)
We adore how Cate exuded such timeless charm, beauty and grace in this yellow one shoulder Valentino gown with a wine-colored belt.
6. Michelle Williams in Vera Wang (2006)
Michelle wore a rather tricky shade at the 2006 Academy awards and it worked! The actress channeled 1930s Hollywood glam in this sunburst yellow Vera Wang ruched gown. Her classic red lipstick complemented her overall look so well.
7. Reese Witherspoon in Nina Ricci (2007)
Definitely one of our favorite looks by the actress. We love how this indigo multi-tiered tube top gown accentuated her toned figure. Chic and glamorous but not over the top.
8. Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive (2009)
Anne was a total knockout in this silver strapless Armani Prive gown with diagonal pattern made with sparkling Swarovski crystals. This has got to be one of Anne’s best red carpet looks.
9. Kristen Stewart in Monique Lhuillier (2010)
The Twilight star was stunningly beautiful in this strapless sapphire blue Monique Lhuillier gown. The dress did a wonderful job showing off Kristen’s amazing figure and flawless skin.
10. Mila Kunis in Elie Saab (2011)
Mila was a picture of perfection in this lavender Elie Saab tiered chiffon gown. Those silver jewels she wore added a touch of glam to her delicate look.
11. Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace (2012)
This custom-made strapless velvet gown paired with custom-made Salvatorre Ferragamo velvet pumps looks so good on her, we forgive her for her excessive leg flashing from the red carpet to the stage.
12. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture (2013)
One of our personal favorites. Her fall as she made her way to the stage to get her first ever Best Actress award looked as if she was just posing for a Dior campaign. To say that she looked fabulous would be an understatement.
13. Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive (2014)
Can this actress ever go wrong in the red carpet? We don’t think so. Cate looked every inch of a winner in this gold-colored cap-sleeved gown fully embroidered with sequins and Swarovski crystals.
14. Emma Stone in Elie Saab (2015)
Emma won our vote for last year’s Best Dressed at the Oscars as she donned this custom long-sleeved Elie Saab Couture chartreuse gown with illusion detailing and a pair of Louboutin sandals of the same color. Her deep coral lipstick added that punch of color that completed her look. It was simply fresh and delightful.
